The Taiga Biome
The Taiga biome, better known as a coniferous or boreal forest, can be found in North America and Alaska. It also covers most of Sweden. In this biome, summers are short and mild and the winters are long, cold and dry. Plants are mostly evergreens with leaves like needles, such as pine, fir
and spruce. Leaves like this minimise water loss and do not get weighed down with snow. The snow slides off the needles. The forest canopy lets in a restricted amount of sunlight, and this limits the understorey growth. The Taiga is a forest on the mountains, and chilly places. Some of the animals that live there, are:
1.Moose
2. Hawks
3. Bears
4. Weasels
5. Chipmunks
6. Shrews
These animals all depend on each other to survive in their biome. Their food chain is just as important
as others, and one small change could wreck their whole survival plan. Humans are impacting
Taiga, as they are continuously chopping down the trees, leaving less places for the inhabitants
to live in. The animals suffer, as well as the trees themselves. The chipmunks won't have
enough amount of nuts to help them survive throughout their long winter hibernation. The same
applies to the bears and other animals living in this truly incredible biome.
